Paris has long been known as the “City of Light” and just last month, the Eiffel Tower further enhanced the tourist experience by incorporating a feature that makes it even more breathtaking—a new glass floor on the first floor that highlights a different kind of view of the sparkling city. While the Eiffel Tower is just one of the latest worldwide attractions jumping on the glass flooring trend, this product isn’t limited to inspiring landmarks (SkyView at the Grand Canyon) and commercial buildings like the Willis Tower in Chicago. Many homeowners are wondering how to incorporate dramatic glass floor elements, like the ones available at Innovate Building Solutions.

When Hope Lutheran Church of Columbus Ohio went looking to replace their windows which “leaked liked crazy” according to Pastor Carl Rayburn not just any type of window would do. Large windows at the front entrance of a commercial building can really have a large impact on employees, customers and suppliers of a business. The staff at American Mutual Life Association (AMLA) of Cleveland Ohio knew something had to be done with the poor performing aluminum storefront windows. The existing units offered minimal insulation (even with the storms on the outside) and the upper level windows were visibly broken by vandals.

With the assistance of the Cleveland Glass Block division of Innovate Building Solutions a solution involving glass block windows at the lower level plus Kalwall translucent insulated panels on the upper level windows was chosen. Learn more below why this hybrid approach (i.e. glass blocks and Kalwall) was used and the benefits these respective products provided AMLA.

Commercial glass block windows have been used for many reasons – but a driving force in many projects is increasing security and reducing the chance of break-ins or vandalism. When Dean Strasser got the entrepreneurial bug and decided to open 45 Degree Cycles (a motorcycle sales and repair business) at 1748 E. Livingston Rd. in Columbus Ohio he knew he would need to transform the graffiti filled walls and boarded up windows with products that would not only be stylish and inviting to his customers – but also would be secure against intruders gaining entry to the building at off business hours. These objectives led him to use glass block windows.

Learn below about Dean’s glass block product choice and the installation approach used by the team of Sean Malmsberry and Isaac Clark of the Columbus Glass Block division of Innovate Building Solutions.
