7 Tips to Learn from 2013 European Kitchen Design Trends
Maybe you’ve looked in high fashion oriented kitchen design magazines and marveled over the sleek look of the European kitchen. What makes these European kitchens so appealing? How can they create a great looking smaller sized kitchen? Learn 7 tips below how Europeans get more out of their kitchen spaces.
Tip 1 – Get rid of clutter – Kitchen spaces are dramatically smaller in Europe than the U.S. which requires not only an efficient design but the elimination of clutter. Throw out those nick knacks and things you don’t use. Create a streamlined and clutter free appearance.
Tip 2 – Modern clean lines – This is certainly the hallmark of the European kitchen. It’s clean, neat with modern lines. No fancy ornate cabinet pulls – think function and neat lines. Look at more contemporary cabinets.
Tip 3 – Focus on natural sustainable materials – In 2013 the trend (much like in the United States) will be on sustainable materials. Europeans will be combining materials like ceramic, glass, stainless steel and wood.
Tip 4 – Get organized inside the drawers – In the Euro kitchen design what you don’t see is as important as what you do see – and this includes the drawers. Drawer organization focuses on putting each item in the place where it can best be used by the homeowner.
Tip 5 – Mobile high quality appliances that are smaller in size – You may be asking what can be mobile about appliances? Well in Europe it is not uncommon for people to take their kitchen appliances with them when they move. The trend in Europe is to buy commercial grade kitchen appliances that have the ability to be moved.
Tip 6 – Networking and connectivity are in – You just can’t get away from using Smartphones, tablet PC’s and computers – even in the kitchen! There will be an increased networking of the appliances throughout the entire household (appliances will even start to communicate with one another!).
Tip 7 – Multi use spaces – Doing more with less seems to be a pervasive theme everywhere! If you have a smaller kitchen having efficiency and flexibility will be key. In Europe there are sinks with retractable faucets that allow the sink space to become a cutting area by pushing the faucet down and putting a cutting board right over it.
